For this reason, Otago Polytechnic’s Graduate Diploma in Applied Management centres on the real world of business, and includes a specific industry project within a 200 hour
internship. You will be immersed in case studies, relevant industry examples of best practice scenarios, presentations, visits to relevant businesses and investigations into management issues in the local and international community.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must hold a recognised undergraduate Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline.
If English is not your first language, you must have English language skills equivalent to an IELTS overall band score (academic) of 6.0 (with no less than 6.0 for writing). Successful completion of our Certificate in Foundation Studies (ESOL) (Level 4) programme is an acceptable equivalent. Students who have achieved a high level of English in academic results may apply for an IELTS exemption.
ADDITIONAL COSTS: You should allow NZD $80-$150 per paper for required text books. (Approximately $500.00 per year in total)

YOU WILL STUDY:
You must complete three papers at Level 6, two papers at level 7 and a 45-credit industry project (also known as the internship). A selection from the following papers will be offered each year.
YOUR WORKLOAD:
This programme of study generally includes lectures and seminars/ tutorials. You will be expected to contribute at least 20 hours per week of your own time in self-directed study to allow for successful completion of the qualification.
You will also complete a 200-hour internship, gaining hands-on experience and developing important industry and business connections. For your industry project, you may focus on an area of specific interest to you such as strategic management, human resource management, sales and marketing or hotel or tourism management.

2. Can a student get a job search VISA after completing the Graduate Diploma in Applied Management (L7)? Yes, students are eligible for a job search VISA and can apply for a further work VISA if they get a job in their field of study.

4. If a student is interested in Hotel Management, Tourism Management or similar, can he study this programme? Yes, students who are interested in any field related to management can study this programme. Students will build on their knowledge from their bachelor’s degree and our Graduate Diploma will provide them with additional learning aimed at their entry into Management positions.

- Applied Management: Students will develop competency through applying management concepts. ·
- Research Methodology: To introduce students to the key analytical tools used within business and the implications for managerial decisions. Students will learn to apply appropriate research methodologies to identify and solve a business related problem. ·
- Entrepreneurship: Students will acquire a broad overview of the principles, theories and practice of entrepreneurship and analyse the significance of entrepreneurial activity to economic well-being. They will explore the key resources, skills, techniques, attitudes and ethics required to operate successfully in an entrepreneurial environment. Students will also examine the role of governments and other regulatory bodies in fostering entrepreneurial activity.
- Market Development and Sales:To enable students to understand and apply the principles and practices of personal selling, the importance of personal selling to organisational performance, personal selling and sales people in New Zealand, competencies needed to successfully manage the sales function, and various systems and processes that support it. ·
- Accounting Practices: Students will record and process financial transactions and prepare financial statements and cash budgets for entities in accordance with current accounting practices.
- Services Marketing Management: Students will understand the roles, functions and application of services marketing management within contemporary New Zealand organisations. They will explore the key resources, skills, techniques, attitudes and ethics required to operate successfully in a range of service environments.
